The CIB was established as a unit of Directorate of Criminal Investigations in 1999. the core function is to collect and provision of criminal intelligence.
FUNCTIONS
- To oversee all matters related to criminal intelligence
- To evaluate analyze and disseminate criminal intelligence received from the fields
- The safeguarding, storage and retrieval of criminal data from unit data bank
- To facilitate the Kenya police service in intelligence led policing strategy
- To facilitate investigations with relevant intelligence in criminal investigations
- To facilitate the Kenya police service in its pro-active strategy in crime prevention and detection
- To act as the liaison office for the police service and other law enforcement and intelligence agencies both local and international
- To carry out any other duties as directed by the director of criminal investigations
Other functions include:
- Analysis of Criminal Intelligence
- Dissemination of intelligence to field officers
- Management of criminal database profile and
- Any other duties assigned by Director General
